Chin-Chin was rescued from a churchyard, where he had turned up repeatedly for choir practice. He would hang around the door to the practice room and try to get in, and a nun in the choir would shoo him away...worried about fleas. After two or three weeks, we went over in the evening and looked for the cat. It was totally quiet outside the practice room. Not a creature was stirring. I made some cat noises, with a few, "Here kitty, kitties," and suddenly at least a dozen cats came out from under bushes and stepped hesitantly forward. Only one actually came up to us...Chin-Chin. We placed him in a box, and brought him home, where he ate and ate and ate. We were amazed to learn of this little colony of cats and thereafter called them the church gang. Chin-Chin is
Mr. Personality and has the whole neighborhood wrapped around his little
paw. He greets all the neighbors on the street, and they are
delighted as he comes trotting up to them to be petted. He is so
handsome and
irresistible. |

Chin-Chin has striking markings--the beige color that gradually deepens to black on his legs, then the sudden white feet. Some definite siamese cat genes there. His name derives from the brown chin under his stark white nose.

Chin-Chin is a relative newcomer and Fledermaus tries to kill him every once in a while. Chin-Chin in turn takes it out on the other Siamese Cat, Nikita. This is a dynamic cat household. In fact, it has been said, "If you wish to understand human nature, get two cats."
A cat doesn't want to
misstep around the cacti. More than once, we've had to pull out
clumps of cactus that got imbeded in the hide of a careless
cat. But it is amazing that most of the time they get away with it,
and have frequently been seen rubbing their faces against the spiney cacti
to mark them as their territory.
Is he getting his tail wet? Chin-Chin is a cross-eyed siamese cat, and yet, somehow, is an excellent birder.
