JENNIFER'S CAT

My 4-year tuxedo little girl has the name of Poopsy.  When we brought her home we were undecided for a name for her.  My 3-year-old step-daughter, Kristin, used to follow her around all the time and say, "All she does is poops, Jennifer".  I laughed and everytime she saw the kitten she would say she's having a poopsy.  Well, the name stuck and so did her overly worked bowels!!!!!!!!!  I love poops (what I call her for short) and wouldn't trade her for anything in the world.  Jennifer Gibb, Moncton, NB  Canada

KIMMI'S CAT

I have a white "moon eyed cat" with one blue eye and one yellow eye so the appropriate name I gave him was "Moonshine".  Yes, like the intoxicating liquor illegally distilled drink.
Thank You.  Mrs. Kimmi Peake

STACY'S CAT

I think that my cat has a really cute, and funny name.  My daughter brought this little grey and white kitten home from a farm where she went horseback riding . We all immediatly fell in love with her, and then we noticed that she stunk HORRIBLY of fish.  So we decided to name this smelly wonder, Anne Chovie.  Hope you like it.

ANGELIA'S CAT

I found your website merely by accident, but am so glad I did.  I just loved reading everyone's stories about how their furkids were named.  I thought I would share with you, maybe not funny names, but my cats' names just the same.
My husband is an active duty Marine so with that we are stationed on the island of Okinawa, in Japan.  When we got here we decided that it would be nice to "adopt" a cat.  We found a friendly black and white male and took him home with us.  We weren't sure what we'd name him, but knew we wanted it to at least sound Japanese...LOL.   Well, one of our favorite places to eat here is a "fast food" style restaurant called Yoshinoya...Thus came cat #1...Yoshi.  We later found out that Yoshi mean "grateful" in Japanese, so that seemed fitting since we took him from the shelter.
Our newest furkid just came to us a few days ago.  He wandered up to a friend's doorstep and she knew that she couldn't keep him, so I happily took the little guy in.  Again I knew he'd be getting a Japanese name.  After talking to some of my "local" friends and seeing how this little guy acts so much like a kid and is always annoying Yoshi....he was given the name Gaki Neko....Which translates more or less into....Bratty Cat....LOL.  Each of our furkid's name seems fitting for him.  Angelia M. JODI'S CAT

Hi...My kitten is a little over 2 mos. old. and from checking out your site, she looks to be a blue russian.  Me and my kids named her Sally Ashes. Sally was the name I had picked, and the kids said that she looked like she just rolled around in the ashtray, so they started calling her Ashes. So she goes by all three names--Sally, Ashes or Sally Ashes. I also gave her a nickname as I was checking out your site...Baby Blue. Thanks. Jodi Wresh

JANE'S CAT

We got a grey cat in 1987 and named her Boesky, after the convicted insider-trading felon, Ivan Boesky.  When she had kittens that year, we named the largest of the litter, Mecir.  There was a high-ranking, professional tennis player at that time named Miloslav Mecir, whose nickname was "The Big Cat".  Mecir, the cat, is still with us after 17 years.

BONNIE'S CATS

We adopted (picked up a stray, rather) a young black cat a few years ago. Originally, she was named "keys" because undoubtedly, her rear end had a bald spot in the exact shape of a key.  Her name then morphed into "Key-Z-Poof", pronounced "Keys-eeee--poof", and now it's just "Poof", or "Poofer".  Later, we were blessed with four lovely kittens, which were named "Joy Babe", "Cocoa", "Nana, Hannah, Banana Bunz", and "Whisker Lickenz", otherwise known as "Turd", or "the Bum".  He's very fat, very lazy, and he likes fruit.  When he sleeps, he lays completely upside down with his tongue all the way out.  He looks so funny!  And I bet no other cat has EVER had that name.

TAMMY'S CAT

I have a black cat that I named BAGHEERA.  Gheera, as I sometimes call him, is 1.5 years old.  I first met him when he was two weeks old and his eyes were not even opened.  My daughter works for a vet, and the momma cat had left him and his two sisters and his bro.  One of the girls my daughter works with had rescued them.  She asked the girls if they could help her out by taking the kittens home on weekends.  L'Oreal (my daughter), asked me if we could keep them for a weekend, I said yes.  The next weekend L'Oreal comes home with a carrier, and four of the tiniest babies I have ever seen.  Right away I spotted the black one and said I want to keep this one, she said I would have to wait till he could eat his crunchies, I said ok.  All weekend I kept him with me. He would lay on my shoulder or my chest as we watched the Jungle Book (movie and cartoon), over and over.  I decided to name him Bagheera in honor of the black leopard who took care of Mowgli.   I was correct in naming him Bagheera as he now thinks he is a big jungle cat, he prowls, and slinks around the house, attacking every so often.  He is very loving and very spoiled.  His new trick is to chase and bring back two big rubber bands tied together, after we shoot them,  although we never see him bring them back, suddenly they are right by the chair.  He loves to sleep between two stuffed bulldogs that I have on the bed and in boxes.   He is always there when I need him and I love him very much and don't know what I'd do without him

LAUREN'S CAT

Growing up, I had a tortoise haired cat.  Everyday around lunch time, a cat would show up at our house. We assumed she was hungry, so we fed her.  Naturally, she came back to eat every day at the same time.  Our grandfather would always laugh at the cat and say, "She's always looking for a free lunch."  Being two years old at the time, my brother naturally assumed that was her name. So from that day forward, she was known as Free Lunch.  Lauren Forst

LAURA AND NATHAN'S CAT

When we got married, my mother sent us a Japanese Bobtail kitten from her cattery.  She was shipped by air with a pedigreed name that neither of us remember now.  When we got her, she wouldn't come out of her carrier, so we left the door open, left some food & water and a litter box.  Next morning, the cat was nowhere to be found, but we had observed a transfer of material from a) food bowl to b) litter box, after some processing.  After a few days of having only secondary evidence that we actually had a cat, we decided to name her "Neutrino", after the elusive subatomic particles.  Neutrinos cannot be directly observed, but can only be inferred based on the effects they have on their environment.  It turned out that she had slid behind the books on our white bookshelves.  Being mostly white herself, it was a good spot for hiding.  Thanks!  Nathan & Laura Sherman

SANDY'S CAT

My 10--year-old female is named Xena the Warrior Kitty because when I got her from an animal rescue organization in California, she was 2 1/2 years old and had been abused for much of that time.  She hissed and growled when picked up, but was a sweet loving girl if you left her alone to wander on the floor.  She had about 4 or 5 homes between being adopted and fostered before I got her.  Xena didn't know how to play and wasn't good with other cats.  After many years of patience, insanity and dumb luck, she is still just like the TV character Xena.  One minute she will look at you with love in eyes, and the next growl, hiss and swipe.  Most of the time she is a wonderful cat.  She gets along with my other cat and she loves to play (mostly alone).  She has been busted playing with her companion Joxer (also named from the TV series Xena because he is just like the character.  All legs and feet, always bouncing everywhere.  The Marmaduke of cats.  A real clown who is very much in love with Xena).  So...I guess I am nominating both my cats Xena and Joxer.  Thanks, Sandy Hall

EILEEN'S CAT

We rescued a beautiful silver tabby kitten from the alley behind our local jail.  We weren't sure of its sex but wanted to select a name that would suit either gender.  We named it Ali Khat. We later learned that she was a  female, so now we use the
call name Allie.  Eileen Walden, Ashland City, Tenn
