NANCY'S CATS

We have a precious new addition to our household and we feel that we've given her a funny, but very suitable name.  To preface her story let me say that we were already owned by an 18 pound black & white kitty named Maxwell Sylvester Puddytat (or MaxiCat, or Maximus Cattamus or Big Boy Kitty Love).  MaxiCat is a very laid back, loving kitty & he prefers the term "big-boned" to fat.  Two weeks ago we found ourselves staring into the sweetest, tiniest tabby face and knew that this "free to a good home" baby was going home with us.  Being used to  MaxiCat and his low key attitude, we weren't prepared for the tornado that entered our home.  The angelic face had been deceptive and that little stinker proceeded to turn our house and our lives upside down.  Her beautiful little face with those giant grey eyes and innocent stare has gotten her out of plenty of trouble and she's maturing into a  sweet & cuddly member of the household.  She can still be a stinker, which is why she has earned the name Stinkerbelle.  We wouldn't have her any other way.  : ) ~  Nancy in Nashville

NICOLE'S CAT

Actually, the maine coon kitty in question is not mine, but one that a girl "gave" my brother while he was in college.  She left him and the cat.  My brother is nice and all but not much of a cat lover so when he graduated from college he moved back in to our mother's house temporarily and thus "gave" the cat to Mama when he moved on.  Her name is Mo'. Yep, Mo'. It's short for Moron.  It fits her, too! The cat, I mean, not Mama. Today Mo' is still at Mama's bringing nice treats of dead animals once and a while to show her appreciation. SARAH'S CAT

Hi.  My cat is called Crappy.  Tthe reason for this is when we first got Crappy he crapped on my dad's leg when we were trying to think of names for him.  Sarah Coots

HILARY'S CATS

Hi! I had a grey cat that had a grey body and an orange ring around her VERY fluffy tail and my mom and dad were big fans of the Beatles, so to thank them for getting me the cat I named her Fluffy Ringo Star. Fluffy has now passed on. Next came along a very black Persian cat with green eyes, he was very stealthy and would come after you if you even looked wrong at him. I am an Italian who loves all of the Mafia, Mob, Godfather stories, so I took one look at this black cat who looked so sweet and could turn on you in a heart beat and named him Mugzy Corleone, after the Corleone family in the Godfather movies. Next came a little beige and brown Himalayan kitten with blue eyes, and we happened to see that the movie Gremlins was on TV that night. While we were watching the movie and playing with our new cat, the cute little furry animal on the movie came on the screen. We took one look at our cat who looks exactly like that animal and one look at the screen and knew that we had to call him Gizmo, and he did not have the best breath so his name is now Gizmosis Halitosis. Next we have another black Persian, but this time with copper eyes. She was all black except for the part around her neck which was an ashy grey color, looked like a collar on her, so we started calling her Ashy and that eventually turned into Ashlei, who is just a terror! So now I call her Ashlei-holy-roller.  Thanks, Hilary Wilson, N.Y.

KATHY'S CAT

We had a cat named Peaches. Not too hard, because the cat was orange. But, we weren't too smart, beause we took her to the vet (with her pink collar), and when she came out she became Mr. Peaches!   Mr. Peaches had a beautiful home with us for 13 years. He is missed. FUDGE

My cat’s name is Fudge… it doesn’t sound all that funny, but here’s the back story.  When we got him he was a little undernourished, and as such, was all ears and weighed less then a pound.  He’s a brown tabby, and so as a joke, we named him ‘Fudge’.  Well the joke was on us because that little nothing of a kitten is now a 23-pound tabby cat!  He grew into his name! :D

KATHY'S CAT

This new little guy I just got a month ago was a real pudge, he was the fat one of the litter...the CUBS were playing the Florida Marlins at the time I first laid eyes on him.  Even though I am from Chicago, and a CUBS fan, I thought the catcher on the other team was cute, his name was Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez.  When I saw the kitten for the first time, he was born on 9/11/03, I decided to name him Ivan "Pudge" Rodrikatz.  Kathy Cass

MARCIE'S CAT

Lucy was a stray cat and was the sweetest cat we had ever seen....till we adopted her. As soon as she realized that we belonged to her, the manipulative minx dropped the sweet act. By then it was too late. That is when we named her Lucy Furr.  BTW, tell Fledermaus that Lucy Furr's favorite toy is a stuffed mouse that 'chirps' when it is moved....we named the toy Die Tweeter-maus.  Marcie

TAMMY'S CAT

I have a cat named Purreaux.  When I went to the Humane Society looking for a new kitten I spotted a little orange tiger stripe kitten all alone in a cage.  Someone had just dropped him off and he was dirty and covered with fleas.  I knew that kitten was meant to go home with me.  He had personality.  He wasn't over six weeks old and fit in the palm of my hand.  He had huge ears (aka Ross Perot) and was very affectionate.  He purred constantly and very loudly.  The name fit perfectly with his personality and large ears.  Tammy Corbett

KATI'S CAT

We got our first kitty, a calico, and she was quite the talker.  So we called her Mau Mau since all she did was meow.  Our second is a brown tabby with beautiful stripes....so we called her Bling Bling.  Our last is an orange and white kitty and since we live in Arizona, we had to name him Kitty Con Queso.  Kati Barnes

GLADYS' CATS

I have a cat named "TINASITI."  His name fits him because he is very persistent, curious and funny.  Every day he manages to make me laugh.  He sleeps in strange ways, too, either upside down, covering his eyes, on his back sunbathing, hanging off funiture, you name it he has done it. Tinasiti is so bad, but in a good way.  He knows when he's done something he shouldn't have, because all you have to do is call his name and he will run and hide until he feels the air is clear.  He is so persistent that when the other cats (3 others--Scooter (aka goots, noodles), Pounce (aka the mounce), and the new kitten (snitten)) want to sleep, Tinasiti insists on playing with them anyway.  Gladys Samuels

ELODIE'S CAT

I used to have a Siamese mix named Eddie Puss (Oedipus).  I don't know.  He was kind of a tough cat.  Just looked like an Eddie.  I just got a Siamese kitten this morning and am mulling over names, even as we speak.  Any suggestions?  Elodie Ackerman

ELLE'S CAT

My cat's name is Ed-A-Puss.  It's a play on words for "Oedipus" because he's a mommy's boy.  :-)

DONALD'S CAT

Having been recently adopted by a very pretty female gray tabby, who turned up in my driveway one very cold day--I live in Manitoba, Canada. I thought about it for a while and decided to name her "Gamin" which you may, or may not know is French for "Street urchin". She is very affectionate and allows me to share my favourite armchair with her. Having been pet-less for the last fifteen years this was something I was not prepared for, but with the
help of some pet loving neighbours she was quickly established as a member in good standing.  Rather a nice Christmas present.  Donald R Manktelow.

MELISSA'S CAT

I have five cats - one of them is named "Gato."  People do ask us why we named her "cat."  Actually I wanted to name her Banjo, but my husband wouldn't hear of it.  We also have Pokey, who literally "pokes" into everything; Tiger, Simba, and Keiko.  Once, when I was a kid, my family had a beautiful white cat who ALWAYS got her way... and if she didn't, she'd be sure to puke where you would surely step barefoot early in the morning.... her name, of course, was "Hissy."  But the best - my sister's cat is named "Eternal," but it's not potty trained, so my Dad nicknamed it "Urinal."  Melissa

CHERYL'S CAT

We have two black cats, one male one female.  The first cat my husband rescued from inside the wall of an apartment building he was working in.   The apartment complex's name is Sherwood Forest.   The vet said the kitten was about four weeks old and said she would have died from hunger and exposure within a few hours if she hadn't been found.  She was so tiny, frail, scared and lonely we named her Sherwood Lonesome.  A year and a half later I bought her a companion.  His name is Forrest Lump.  It didn't dawn on me until two years later that we had "Sherwood Forrest".  Duh!  Forrest is also known as Beastie Boy and Forrest the fractious feline (given to him by his vet).  Sherwood is 8 pounds overweight, has been on a diet for three years and gained two more pounds so we sometimes call her Lumpella.  She doesn't move much, she gets up to eat and go potty otherwise she just lays in one place.  Concerned, I took her to the vet, he examined her, gave me the bill, then explained that some cats are just plain lazy and I happen to own one.--Cheryl Hernandez

JENNIFER'S CAT

I have 2 cats, but the older one (now 13) is really a cat deserving of his name "Knucklehead".  He is the only cat I know of who has been chased by a squirrel! (after several failed attempts on knucklehead's part to catch him) While trying to keep his eye on the birds on the bird feeder above him, he dozed off under the tree. Part of his head was hidden by the hostas and his rear-end was hunched up as far up under him as it could go. I guess the summer afternoon was too warm and the birds too high for him to chase. When I called to him to check on him Knucklehead came strutting down the sidewalk, tail at attention and a big streak of bird-do striping is face from forehead to just under his left eye! He had been crapped on by a bird!  Knucklehead is a great cat with lots of personality!  Thanks!  Hope this short "knuck story' gave you a chuckle.  Jennifer.  My web site:  www.ArtGiftsEtc.com

TERESA'S CAT

My cat is called PIMPY because he was a stray at first and for nine months I was feeding a cat that I never saw.  I would put the dish of food out and then as if by magic it had gone, so I called him  PIMPY after the scarlet pimpernel. He now lives with me and is the most handsome little prince. He is so loving and such a happy cat now compared to how he was 14 months ago. He is my rock, as I had not been feeling too well before he moved in and now he gives so many cuddles.  He is beautiful and I love him with all my heart.  Teresa x.  ukNige.  SICK56 GHQ  Punk Rock - England  www.sick56.org

GRANDMA'S CATS

My grandma got two new kittens. They just look like long haired Siamese.  We don't know if they are Himalayen or Persian with a color point but they just look like long haired Siamese (they are twins).  Of course everyone associates Siamese with Chinese, so I helped name them Egg Drop and Won Ton!!! How cute!!!!  Jeff and Stephanie Dahl
