ANN'S CATS
I have three unrelated black
American Shorthairs that quite independently came to need homes and landed with
me: One came as a (probably)
orphaned, starving two-pound package of furry bones that a former room-mate of
mine found crossing the street. Her lease strictly forbids pets so when
she called for advice, I had a cat. The two-pound package ate
Science Diet Feline Growth Formula. It Works. He is now a
14-pound bundle of cat-attitude named Ebony.
The second was adopted by some neighbors when their
letter-carrier found her as an abandoned kitten. She had her paralyzed
tail amputated, and looks like a gone-wrong rabbit! She's sweet and
affectionate with a voice that must indicate some Siamese ancestry. But she is
scared of just about everything! When the neighbors were expecting a baby,
they decided that a newborn and this poor neurotic little scardey-cat (I finally
know what that means!) would not be a good combination. They kept the
baby, and I got another cat. Chat-Noir. That means black cat in French and
is also the name of a famous Left Bank café in Paris. I sometimes call her
Stumpy. She yells and looks insulted when I do.
The third came from my motorcycle mechanic. This
big, tough, ex-Ranger, Vietnam vet could not forgive her for abandoning a litter
of kittens. He had to have his grown son come over to remove the
bodies. So, the cat needed a new home. Number three. Her name
is Mama Cat because she was a Motorcycle Mama. One of her kittens from an
earlier litter was named Fat Boy after the model of Harley-Davidson.
All
three have green eyes. They have three different colored collars to
facilitate telling them apart! Ann Popplestone, Akron
Ohio

AMBER'S CATS
My cat's name is Black Dookie. The
reason I call it Black Dookie is because it dookies everywhere and it is all
black. My other cat's name is Honeycut. Honeycut is an all-white
cat. The reason Honeycut got his name is because we got it from our
grandma's friend's name. My grandma's friend lives like in a country town, and
his name is like really country, too. His name is Raymond Honeycut.
So we got a country kitty. Amber

ANGELA & EUGENE'S
CAT
Hi, We're living in London and one Christmas a very flufffy cat,
who we had seen hanging around the area for quite a while, came up to us looking
for some food. He's been with us ever since and due to his fluffyness,
especially in certain regions, we named him "Fluffbum". He doesn't seem to
mind though! Unknown to their owners, we also give our own names to cats
we see in our area regularly, e.g. a cat with a silent meeow we named
"Harpo".
His Royal
Fluffyness
All of my cats have funny names. I have 2 black & white cats, a mother & child, named Seuss & Inkblot. I have a REALLY BAD siamese named Angel, another siamese named Lucy (she has huge blue eyes like Lucille Ball), an albino who is missing a toe...his official name is Simba, but we call him Three Toes, a calico named Patches, an ALL black cat who is quiet and sneaky named Shinobi (like the ninjas), and one who passed away named Mose Henry Gilmore (he was SLOW). Thanks! Felecia Whittington

TERESA'S CATS
I have two cats. One is three years
old and I got her from a man who had the mother. She was basically an
outside barn cat. So I took this black and white kitten home
and spent time with her trying to come up with an original name for
her. As I was petting her, she rolled over onto her back displaying her
belly. It looked like a swirled marble table so I called her marbles. Well,
low and behold, the name fit perfectly, because as time went by, I realized not
only did it fit her appearance but her personality, too. Sometimes out of
the blue for no reason, she will run around the house or run in circles
like she is crazy, and it is very funny to watch her. It's almost like a young
child dropping a handfull of marbles onto the floor and they go everywhere!
My second cat I found outside in a bad thunderstorm one night. She is a
kitten and was soaking wet from the rain. I brought her in and fed her and dried
her off. She was very cuddly and wouldn't leave my side. She slept with me all
that night. I wanted to give her a name but didn't want a real common
name. So, because she is calico colored with gray and orange patches of
colors, instead of calling her patches, I came up with Puzzle-puss.
She looks like someone put her colors together like a puzzle.

A
CAT
We found a 8 week old kitten in an industrial skip bin. After many thoughts of what to call him, we finally decided "binnie" was most fitting.

ANOTHER CAT
My gray tabby's name is Tiny. Even though he is a big boy... the reason for his name is because when he was first born, he was so tiny that he fit into my husband's pocket on his t-shirt... Also My oldest son loves Crash bandacote for playstation, and the ca'ts name is Tiny.

KELLY &
ERIC'S CAT
My boyfriend and I adopted a cat from my brother. His name was Tig. Tig used to be an outdoor cat, and we tried to make him into an indoor cat. Well, one week while my boyfriend was out of state for training for his job with Norfolk Southern Railway, I caved and let Tig outside. Well, he didn't come back when it was getting dark outside. I went out calling his name in a wooded area, and I heard a meow and a cat jumped into my arms. Well, I thought it was Tig, but to my surpise it was an abandoned kitty. I asked all of the neighbors if they knew this kitty and they didn't. Being the animal lover I am, I brought the kitty into our home. My boyfriend called in that night and I explained that a kitty adopted me. I told my boyfriend that I named him Chessie after Chesapeake the railroad cat. Chessie is a sweet soul and has been around with us for three years. He is such a mamma's boy. P.S. Tig did come back that night and they were close brothers.

NADINE'S CAT
During this past, extremely harsh winter on the East coast, we brought in a pregnant cat that was due to deliver at any time. Sure enough, she delivered five kittens (3 males and two females) on February 17th (President's day), the day of the big blizard. We were scrambling for names and thought they all should relate to weather, so their names turned out to be Winter (mom), Weather, Deicer, Zero, Gust, and Plow. Gust, a large, handsome silver/gray tabby with white paws and chest, turned out to be mine, and his name evolved into Gustafer, which seemed to suit him better. He's smart, active, inquisitive, and truly a lover. He has beautiful large, aqua eyes that his head needs to grow into. Because he's such a character, and he learned his name at an extremely young age, Gustafer it is - for now - forever! Nadine Hormann, New Jersey

RONALD'S
CAT
A cat named Curly? Approximately one year ago (June 2002), I
stopped at our local chain pet store to buy bunny treats for our house
rabbit. As I pulled into a parking space, I saw an animal carrier sitting
there. When I looked into the carrier I saw three scared cats. After
a failed attempt at locating the owner, I figured they were left in the parking
lot on purpose. I decided to keep them. Since there were three cats,
I figured I would call them Larry, Moe, and Curly. Yes, as in the "The Three
Stooges." Since the wife and daughter did not like the idea of a female
cat named "Larry", Larry was later changed to Jasmine. Unfortunately, Moe
was later killed by coyotes. Curly is still Curly. She is the
largest of the original three. Her hair is not actually curly. She's a short hair Tabby.
Her short hair is as close as a Tabby can be without being bald.
Curly doesn't mind her name, as long as she gets
food and plenty of attention. Ronald Dortch
