JULIE'S
CATS
We're nominating Skeech for weird cat name. Skeechis Siamese...Scheech is named Skeech because she does not meow like a normal cat. She makes a high-pitched Skeeeeech noise...so, therefore, she got her name. We also have Max, whose full name is Maxwell Silverhammer. He is a mixed cat we got at Warehouse for Pets when he was a baby. He is named after the Beatles song. Julie Guthrie

MARTA'S
CAT
We named our cat "Nosferatu," which by the way means undead or immortal in Romanian, but we named him that because he seemed mysterious and looked and acted vampire like. He came to my door in typical vampire fashion; at night, in the raining season and didn't come in until I told him, "Come in" (Remember the old wives tale that vampires can't gain entry until they're invited.) This went on for two days. The third day he slept over. He is a Russian Blue/alleycat and had a regal aire about him, though he came to us with nothing but the fur on his back. We thought he looked like a bat from day one, all bluish gray, with those oversized ears, piercing greenish yellow eyes, and fangs that stuck out even when closed mouthed. He purred for hours when I held him and I was going to name him Vibrator, but it was a bit risque and naming him Murcielago (Spanish for bat was outta the question). So was Nemesis since he was a boy cat, but he looked like his name should be unique, exotic, and strong sounding..I thought, Vladimir or Tepish, as in Dracula, and then my husband thought...What about Nosferatu. And the cat responded as if we did, in fact, guess his name...he turned around toward us as soon as my husband said it..and then I said it, and one of his ears went sideways toward me, and he walked toward us right away. He still has a mysterious aire about him, would leave at dusk and arrive before dawn with gifts for his beloved hosts (rat, bunny, crow, potato bugs, and lizards)...usually they're alive (they're a lot more fun for him that way). His hunter prowess is unbelievable, since he brings these gifts through two cat doors to our room!!!! He has run away recently though while I was on vacation 2 weeks. I put signs out and checked the pounds and nothing for a month now. The emptiness was so great I began to draw him thinking at least I have my memories of him. I drew him realistic, cartoonish, and even pondered if he left this world and drew him with angel wings, bat wings, and regreted not painting him like I was intending to in different styles, like Picasso, Botero (since I'm Colombian), and even Edvard Munch style. So when I saw your work, I absolutely died and thought about synchronicity..how was I led to your sight? Why of all cats did you pick a Russian blue for your work? and I read why . Thanks to you I got out of my depression. The picture moved me enough to laugh. You have brought back my sense of hope and sense of humor. I want to order this picture. Thanks for your beautiful work, endearing comments. Sincerely, Marta

KAREN'S
CAT
I have a sweet and lovable old lady cat who adopted us one fine morning over 19 years ago! My Mama was visiting, and we were all in the kitchen getting the coffee made, when we heard a scratching on our mudroom door. I opened the door, and a fluff of black and white fur bounded in and made herself at home! Well.......she decided to keep us, and my Mama gave her the name of "Intruder," which we sometimes shorten to "Trudi." Trudi is now a healthy old age of 19+, and has given us many happy years of love and cuddling, and we're so happy she chose our house! Karen Madden

KEN
& SHERRY'S CAT
Nippissing came to us after her older sister was killed in a car accident. She was, and remains, half feral, nervous, after twelve years, that we will do something insane and horrid to her. She avoids people she doesn't know, and will only come to us on occasion; primarily she comes when she wants stroked, where she purrs madly and fans her tail out from the base, almost to the tip if she is very relaxed. Her eyes are crossed, (did I mention she is Siamese?) and she has a darling, round, country cat face instead of the triangular, pointy face like a show cat. Her point of focus is, about, eight inches in front of her nose. Pretty meek and mild, huh?
She is the most
vicious and successful hunter we've ever had in our history of cats. She
will go on safari for up to two weeks in the summer, coming back slimmer, but
sleek. She's fed herself. She'll eat a few bites of cat food and
sleep for two days. She brings live game onto the back porch, while
yowling to announce her arrival, and will frequently leave stomachs and tails on
the porch. One summer we were gone for two weeks. When we returned,
she had lined up five tails of various rodents on the entry rug of the
porch in perfect parallels. This is when we realized her heroic name is
Tiny Bloodbath. Ken and Sherry

MARY'S CAT
I was recently informed of your website, and a friend of mine told me to write you an email explaining my cats names. There are three cats that live under my roof, each of which has a very unique name. The name of the first cat that I owned was Antimone----after the daughter of Oedipus, who lead her blind father around and saved his life, and the life of her siblings multiple times, before ultimately succumbing to her downfall at the hands of her ignorant brother---that is Greek mythology of course. Unfortunately, Antimone died.

MY CATS
I named the one cat Fuzzer because he was really
fuzzy, and my sister came up with it. Not really a story behind it. And I
came up with Scoofers for the other, because I liked the name.

DENNIS' CATS
Hi, I like your site!
I have had cats all my adult life and have loved
every one of them! I have had a few cats with funny
names:
Syrinx - was the first cat I ever got when I started
living on my own. I named her after a song by the band Rush. What can I say, I
was young!
Chimeer - (pronounced with an sh sound - Sh mere)
her name came from a Heavy Metal magazine. I thought it was a very pretty name
and she was a very pretty sweet cat.
Buzzy - came to me when
he was 11 years old. He was my best friend's cat, and he told me that the name
came from the sound he made when he was a kitten. Buzzy lived to the ripe
old age of 19.
You can see pictures and read stories about Syrinx, Chimeer,
Buzzy, and others on my website, The Feline Shrine at http://home.earthlink.net/~travelingtech/fshrine.html
Thank You, Dennis Ashe

NADIA'S
CATS
I have 2
cats with really weird names. The first one is
WASABI,
which means horse radish (
the really spicy stuff in sushi). We named her this because she is really
weird and "Wasabi" is a really weird name, so it suited her perfectly!! The
second one's name is
SUKEY
SUKEY, but for short we call her
SUKE
SUKE. Not much better huh? But
anyways I have no idea what it means. I didn't even name her, my
father did. I asked him to because I ran out of cat names. Well
that's their names. Hope ya like 'em. PS: my father
named Wasabi too. Nadia Askar

KRISTI'S
CATS
All of my cats have original and odd names. My indoor cat's name is
Vegas. I named her Vegas because she's a tortoise shell and her colors are
all on top of her black coat like highlights, or lights. My dad started
calling her "LotsaLights" and then I just thought "Vegas"! My
outdoor cats are, Nellie, Capezio (ka-pee-zee-oh), Kola (cola), Fanci (fancy),
Pooch, Eeyore, Meezer, Ducky and Maestro! Kristi
