LISA'S
CATS
Hello, well I have two cats to
tell you about...the first one is Conundrum.
She is a chocolate colored domestic short hair... I found her wandering in my
back yard when she was just 4 months old... I thought wow a brown cat how
puzzling...being that she is not a pure breed Havana Brown... so I took her in,
and her name became Conundrum, which means puzzle!!!!
My other
cat is Mooney. Her real name is La Luna, which means moon in
Italian...Moony was given to me by a friend because I always
wanted a Grey cat... she is a beautiful Grey medium hair. She looks
like a full moon, hence the name La Luna...I nicknamed her Moony because when I
would tell people her name they would say tuna! and I would say no its La
Luna!!!!! So it's easier to say
Moony.

AMBER'S
CATS
My cat has a funny name. Of course, I named him when I was
in the fourth grade so... His name is Tickles and he is a black and white british shorthair. And the reason
I named him that is because everytime when he was a kitten you could rub his
stomach and he would lick your hand and paws and his fur was so soft that
it would just...Tickle.

MICHELE'S
CATS
We have two blue point Siamese. One was easily named, the
other not-- but the names they carry suit them well. The first one we brought
home was shy and sweet-- and grew up to be quite a queen. Her name is Princess
Yum Yum (Yummy for short) named for the lead character in The Mikado. She is
definitely alpha cat in our house (the dog is beneath her notice) and she was
NOT AMUSED when I brought home her half-sister a year later. The little one (who
is bigger now...) was not so easy to name. We just couldn't seem to find the
name that suited her. After much trial and error, we discovered her name is
Sweetpea. She is very vocal as well as quite a snuggly. She often stalks around
the house, crying "Mooooom!" when she is looking for me. She is willing to let
Yummy be queen cat as long as Yum doesn't want the throne to be my
lap!

JASON AND MELISSA'S
CATS
My name is Jason Bellman, and my girlfriend Melissa
purchased a Cream Tabby Persian. We named him Yetti immediately but I
decided he needed a full name. It was quickly discovered what it should
be, Yetti Stinkhole Dumass (pronounced do-mas). We called him Yetti
because of a few reasons, the main one being that Melissa really liked the name
Yetti and when people were being stupid she would call them a Yetti. Yetti
spent about 6 months in a kennel in the pet store and when he was brought home
he was, to say the least, not real bright. So the name fit....that leads
to his last name. On a Barq's Root Beer commercial, a guy during an
interview keeps calling the other guy Mr. "Dumbass". At the end he tells
him that it is pronounced Do-Mas.....mas prounounced in its Spanish form (mas
meaning 'more' in Spanish). Hopefully that lets you know exactly how it is
pronounced. We do have another kitty--a cream point himalayan. He is
almost a year old, his name is Fargo TT Dumass. We currently live in Wy,
but I am from Wis. Melissa feels I have a "fargo" accent so that is how
the first name came about, and the TT comes from her favorite car....Audi TT
coupe, and of course the same last name.

HARRIET'S
CATS
Hello, I found your site while looking for pages with suggested cat
names. Ah, the task of naming a child's new kitten...
Anyway, I love your site. I figured I must not be the
only one who has a silly name for a cat and sure enough, I have found my fellow
beings on your site. My cat's name came about in a bittersweet way,
but as often is the case, the name fits her perfectly.
I live in the farming community outside of a town
in northern Colorado. When I moved to this house, I moved a 3-4
year old cat with us. We also inherited a barn cat with the property. My
cat and the barn cat became best buddies. They would often disappear
together and then after days, reappear as if nothing had happened. About
three years ago, they took off and two and half weeks later, the barn cat
returned (looking a little worse for wear) and my cat, Ender, never
returned. At this point, I didn't have a name for the barn cat.
I held out for months hoping Ender would return. Now, Ender's
name alone was somewhat strange. The name came from a kayaking term where
you stick the stern of the boat into a hole to make it pop up into the air and
out of the water. Well, Ender was one of those kittens that had a lot of
energy. She would go tearing around the house then stop in the middle
of the living room, pop up into the air about three feet and then disappear as
quickly as she appeared. She earned her name one day after a good day on
the river. The name suited her well.
Nevertheless, Ender disappeared and never returned and she is
either in kitty heaven or happily snuggled up with someone else. Once
Ender disappeared, the barn kitty started acting just like her. I swear it
seemed as though she took over Ender's personality. The cat would never
come near any of us before, and suddenly she would rub against me and talk and
talk and talk, just the way Ender used to talk. As time went by, she
integrated herself into the family and then it became evident that I really
needed to give her a name. She is a beautiful calico and looks like
someone took three cans of paint and threw them at her. So, there I sat
thinking how she was such a pretty blended colored cat. And, also thinking
at the same time how much she was like Ender now.
So, the obvious name for our barn cat was Blender. Yup,
that's her name and she wears it proudly. My friends look at me like I'm
crazy. How she got her name makes for a great story at parties and at the
office. Plus, she's just a neat cat. I have a seven acre field where
this cat will go for walks with me. Or, better yet, she'll lay in my arms
on her back and let me rub her belly while we walk around the field. She
obviously can take care of herself as she has to contend with fox, coyote,
raptors and all kinds of things on a daily basis. And, to see her hang
with the chickens is pretty funny in itself (being the stealth kitty that she
is!)
Well, thanks for the great site. I'll have to log on at home
and show it to my daughter, she'll get a good chuckle out of the silly
names. Cheers, Harriet Rector

REBA'S
CAT
[The following story shows the quandry that
people often go through when trying to discover their new cat's true name.
It kinda looks like they're not quite there yet.]
My daughter has finally decided on a name for the new
kitty. She already had a name since she was surrendered to the Humane
Society. She was named Maggie. We kind of like that name, but we
wanted to give her a name unique to us. We tossed around a few names and
last night Reba decided she wanted to call her Hurricane. Even I do not
quite understand the psyche of that choice! She thought about calling her
Sliver because the moon was a sliver the day we picked her up. She also
thought about calling her Maple because she is a brown/tan/black tabby and
almost looks like the color of Maple syrup. We may still go with
that
one though. We decided we could have more than one name for her. We
thought about adding "Little" to Maggie and calling her Little Maggie after the
song. That may stick as well.
The main thing is that she has integrated
into our family quickly and already follows us around the house and snuggles
right up to you. She is a very sweet kitty and I'm so glad we took that trip to
the Humane Society on a whim. As we all know, cats choose us and that day,
she must have been calling to us! I am really surprised that no one else
picked her up as she had been there for 5 days already. Again, I truly
believe she was meant to be a part of our family. Harriet

MARCI'S
CAT
My cat is named Moo for the way he looks. He has
the same markings as a Guernsey cow!

MICHELLE'S
CATS
Hi Eve, I was purrusing your
website and saw the section for "adding a funny cat name". I guess our family
would qualify as having cats with funny names. Our black cat is Pan, short for
Pan d'Monium. When we first took him to the vet I told them that his last name
is d'Monium. He is a maniac at age 4. Acts like he's 2. I could write a book
about his antics, in fact my partner has written a short story which I'm going
to illustrate. We originally named him Pan when he was a kitten after the
mythical creature who plays the flute. At the time we named him we didn't know
that in Greek mythology, Pan is the consort of Artemis. Well, Artemis is our
female kitty. I rescued her and her brother, Goldenrod, when they were 3 weeks
old. I knew that Artemis' name was going to be a Goddess name, and the name
Artemis intuitively came to me. I knew that Artemis was the Goddess of the moon,
midwifery and wild creatures, but at the time I named her I didn't know that
Artemis is the Goddess of hunting as well. Goldenrod was named in honor of a
friend named Rod who is an esteemed animal right activist; he's a fluffy orange
cat, hence his name. Michelle Waters Environmental and Goddess
