ANGIE'S CAT

I have a 7-month-old Tortoise Shell kitten named Gemini - Anaki. I call her that because her face and personality is split straight down the middle, half her face is tan, the other is black. She is very friendly and lovable, but she can also be very snappy at times. Her middle name is Anaki, which is Japanese for Anarchy because she's like a little fireball.  She can be so wild at times and she isn't afraid of anything.  We have eight other cats and she will stand up to them all and chase them out of any room at any time, which is so cute since she is the smallest of them all. You can see pictures of her at www.cutecats.com, she is in the "kitten", "funny places" and "lots of colours" categories. Some of my other kitties also have funny names, but I think hers fits the best. ~Angie, owned by Gemini, Whisper, Crystal, Loki, Sneezer, Butterball, Spike, Skitzo-Velcro & Aggie.  http://www.cutecats.com

LISA'S CAT

My siamese cat's name is Yueng Ling Jagr.......I named him after the best beer, and Jagr is my favorite hockey player.  The name is perfect for him because he is a little clutzy (figure it out) and he loves to watch t.v. when the hockey games are on...he will watch the entire game.

HELEN'S CAT

I have a gorgeous, proud, all-white, shorthair male.  I adopted him from the Tufts Clinic in Oxford, MA - he had been abused and needed a good home.   He is a very loveable, sweet boy, but he definitely looks a little tough!  When I adopted him, I was thinking of names, the TV was on and I saw someone w/ the same demeanor as I imagined my cat to have...My boy also has a tough looking Big head, very sweet eyes!  Anyway, I ended up naming him after the man I described earlier...My Cat's name is ........Boutros Boutros Ghali.......but I call him Dali, ( darling ), sometimes!  He is named after the former head of the United Nations!  Not for any political reasons whatsoever!  He just has that type of attitude!  Actually, he would probably make a great U.N. figurehead!   Thanks!  yours, Helen Anderson

LAURA'S CAT

Shortly after we were married, my husband and I got a call from a friend who worked at a vet's office.  She was looking for a home for a cute little kitten that the SPCA had sent over to be euthanized.  We agreed to take him in.  He was a little ginger cat.  My husband and I had met while both studying the Bible and decided to name our cat after a Bible character.  We named him "Esau" (from the story of Jacob and Esau), which means "red and hairy".  Laura Purves

LINDA'S CAT

Hi there.  My cat's name is Luster.  You know why?  I bet you know.  'Cause he's always licking and keeping himself clean.  Every time someone tries to pet him he starts licking himself, even if he has to do it 1,000,000,000 times in 24 hours.  Linda Karam

TINKERBELL'S CATS

My cats have human qualities, so we of course had to give them human names. First there's Bob. Bob is half bobcat so being that he's only half bob cat..he's just the Bob part of it. Ever since we got Bob neutered..his name has been John Bobbit (of course, after Lorena Bobbit's hubby). Then there's Roxxane (aka Roxie) and she was named after that song Roxanne..ok we were desperate for names when we thought her's up. Then we have Wrex (pronounced Rex..the common pet name), and his full name is Wrex Everything because that's what he does..he wrecks everything. Then there's Jack. We found Jack..well he found us..on Halloween, and since he's a black cat..we had to name him after a Halloween thing...a jack-o-lantern. Then there would be Phydo (pronounced Fido)..he's the smart dog so he got an intellectual name!

EILEEN'S CAT

My cat's name is P.I.T.A. and we got her from the Yonkers Animal Shelter.  We had to wait 3 weeks before we were allowed to bring her home.  On my 1 year anniversary my husband brought me down to the shelter to get a kitten.  PITA had food on her face and was squeaking loudly.  The attendant said I could not take her home because she was not eating well and had stomach problems.  I asked if they could put her down as taken but they said that if she was well and someone else came in they could take her.  So, my husband just about went there every day to see if she was ready.  By the end of 3 weeks she was over her stomach problems and my husband proclaimed that she was already such a "Pain In The Ass" (P.I.T.A.).  Eileen Hacaj

My cat's name is Tootles because she is there one second and when you look down again she's gone, running around the house like a mad cat.  Gay Cochran

GARY'S CAT

This is a short tale about a little gray kitten who was left on the I-5 freeway in Los Angeles.  Who knows what could have happened to her. Until a truck pulled over and picked her up.  The truck driver after finding this little kitten (6 weeks old) took her to the Animal Shelter. We were looking for a companion for our other cat and were looking on the internet at pictures when we saw this little gray kitten (Ohhh, cute). So, off we went to the Orange County animal shelter to rescue her but she wasn't in either of the cat houses, they have two (Oh, no!). Fortunately we had a cage number and asked where she might be. The clerk said that she was spoken for by someone else and they never picked her up or paid for her. (Abandoned again) So, along with the truck driver who found her on the freeway we found her too. We are naming her "Finders" and yes we will keep her. Like the old saying "finders keepers".  Olfogey (Gary Fogarty)

SAMANTHA'S CAT

My cats' name is Oreo! We named her that because, her back, stomach and head are black, but her neck is white!  We found Oreo when she was about 5 and she was a nasty thing that only liked my father and me, but when we turned her into an inside cat she became very affectionate. This cat is the storngest animal you would ever see.  I mean, Oreo could get hit by a truck and wave to the driver as he went by.  Samantha Soper

APRIL'S CAT

My boyfriend and I adopted our cat 2 years ago at the shelter.  She is a very large cat.  That's why we fell in love with her at first sight.  The name on her cage was Fat Cat.  Because she weighs 26 pounds!  But we couldn't call her that.  So we were thinking of names and we started calling her Fatty and she seemed to respond so we kept it!  Every time we say Fatty she comes waddling our way!  It's the cutest thing in the world.  Thank you.  April Stucchi

TY'S CAT

I adopted a little kitten when he was 8 weeks old and he only weighed 1.6 lbs.  I named him Nezumi (nay zoo me).  It's Japanese for 'mouse', as he was small as a mouse when I got him.  We call him zumi for short, but it also fits his personality.  He is a true hunter and is always 'zuming' around.  Our other cat, with a far less original name, is named pebbles, but we almost always call her 'girly'.  Ty Percy

JESSICA'S CATS

I have three cats and the names they have are purrfect for them.  The first cat I rescued was a little tiny one pound calico with large green eyes and small ears.  Her small ears make her eyes appear even larger and with her calico coloring, she looks alot like an Ewok for Star Wars.  So, when I brought her home, I named her Wicket after one of the Ewoks.  Now, this name fits her even better than I could of imagined.  She is so rambunctious and sneaky that sometimes we call her Wicked instead.  The second cat I rescued is a solid black kitten with a small white patch on her belly.  She was rescued from a shelter, and therefore had behavioral problems for the first few months that I had her.  On the way home from the shelter, my mother asked me what I was going to name her and the name Syria just came to mind.  This name suits her well first of all because of the exotic look about her and also because she is so shy and never wants to play that we sometimes call her Serious.
The last cat I got I have only had for a few weeks, but I can tell her name is just right for her too.  She is a white three-month old with black spots all over her.  When we bought her from the SPCA, the lady said no one wanted because she scratched everyone who picked her up.  But I had to have her.  On the way home, we named her Echo.  This name is purrfect because she "echos" everything Wicket does.  They chase each other around the house, get in trouble, knock over plants and try to get in the fish tank together.  You are right in saying that cats already have names, you just have to wait until they tell you what it is.  Jessica Neumann

BARRY'S CATS

Where to start?

A long time ago, in a house far, far away.....well, not too far away..just about a mile away, really.. quite close in fact..
We decided it was time for some feline company in the house. Our son was 6 months from emergence and we felt that a settled cat around the place would be good.  Hie we off to the Cat Samaritans (A very worthy UK group who places cats) and we leave with a very small British Shorthair MOGGIE. Brown, Black, White, Cream, Grey.  Get him home, and for the first two days he would come out to eat and then retire to my car-wash bucket.  Bucket lived to be 18, finally succumbing to liver failure.
After that, we decided that a house without a cat is no house at all. A Burmese cross arrived. Dainty (except in defence of her domain), Elegant (except when she thought no one was watching) Well behaved (except when the food bowl has been filled) and Even-tempered (except when in the company of any other living thing), we called her Lady.  Lady was very hairy, with a redhead's temper...Anyway, we had her neutered (part of the deal with the Cat Samaritans) and the vets had to shave her...all down one side. She looked like a billboard for a few days...all gorgeous fur on one side and skinny naked cat on the other. We tried very hard not to laugh.
Along with Lady, we acquired 3 British Short Hair kittens. Now.. we never intended to have 3. We were after, at most, one other. These three kittens were black. Not slightly black. Not a very dark blue or brown. Black. 9 weeks old and most evidently a family.  Mungo-Jerrie, Rumpleteaser and Rum-Tum-Tugger have caused much enjoyment and an incredible amount of havoc.
Lady, evidently deciding that enough was enough, went to live at a neighbour's.  Rum-Tum-Tugger and Mungo-Jerrie (being both males) decided that there was no room for both of them in our house and Rum-Tum-Tugger also went a few houses away. Rumpleteaser, being female and therefore possessed of great good sense, learned to talk.  She will only talk to me, however, limiting her vocabulary to the usual noises when addressing anyone else. She can say "Hello" and "Bowl" which is just about enough for her to get what she wants..petting and feeding.
Regards, BAzz (Barry Freeman)

MARLA'S CATS

We have a beautiful black & white cat. Her name is Bibbs. She is all black execpt for a white inverted triangle under her throat which looks like a bib. She also has white tipped front & back paws & some white on her tummy. She is aloof, but adores my hubby, (almost as much as I do)!  We think her name deserves an award on your wesite!  (Fledermaus thought so, too.)
Migi (pronounced as in the movie "Gigi") is a Japanese word for righteous. He is a ruddy Abyssinian with a BIG personality! Ever hear of a cat who loves water??? That's our Migi! Bibbs & Migi are not the best of friends but they tolerate each other.
Migi is a "lover"! He is VERY affectionate! He loves to jump up on our bed & "knead" the chenille decorative pillows ----- even my stuffed frog pillow! He loves to sit on our lap & does his kneading routine there also. When the doorbell rings, he's the first to come out & check out what's going on. He loves company! He even comes when you call his name (I think he thinks he's a dog)!
As for water....when he hears the shower door close he catterwalls & I mean catterwalls, until we let him in. He gets a soap-free "shower" at least once a week. He just stands there & enjoys being sprayed all over. We have a delightful cat family! Our nickname for him is Meege. Our only problems with Migi is his food allergies, but we don't mind we enjoy him so much!!!!!  Blessings to all, Marla Moody  =^..^=

SHARON'S CATS

Hello.  My friend showed me your website and said I must submit my two cats' antics.  Well they aren't really antics as much as funny stories.
Cat 1  was the first cat I got over 12 years ago. I rescued her from an abandoned apartment above me.  Since I didn't know her name she decided to give me a clue to what to name her.  I had ordered a pizza that night, and me never owning a cat, thought nothing of going to answer the phone while leaving the pizza on the table.  I came back to find my first cat that  I had for only an hour or so, standing in the middle of an open pizza box, licking the pepperoni and cheese off the top.  Hence her name from then on was PEPPERONI.  Her favorite food is still pepperoni and cheese pizza.
Cat 2 is a newer cat.  I found this strange little friend at my job.  I work as a paramedic for an international auto race circuit.  I found the cat under one of the trucks with a broken leg.  We got the leg fixed and he is fine and dandy but with one peculiarity.  While most people tell me that cats shy away from loud noises, this cat just loves going to the race track with me.  He rides on the back of my scooter or sits in the golf cart with me as I make my rounds.  He just loves running around in circles chasing the race cars and hanging out in the pits.  He will sit in the cock pit of the race car with those loud engines revving to high gear.  Just loves it.  Being also that he just loves to run around like a nut, we had to give him the only name that seemed to fit ZOOMZOOM.  Sharon Richardson
