Cat art parody cat prints of
Picasso's Cats Meeting Miro's Cat
on a Dark and Starry Night

See my original painting that interprets how Picasso and Miro might have painted their own cats!

If Picasso and Miro had had cats, how do you think they would have painted them?  I borrowed from these artist's techniques and created an original scene featuring their cats.  Using Picasso and Miro's famous styles, I painted my interpretation of how they would have portrayed their own cats :-)

Cat art parody prints of Picasso and Miro's cats in a confrontation.  This cat print is part of the Famous Artists' Cats series and actually incorporates five different styles of painting.  Look for them.

Picasso Miro cat fight

Pablo Picasso's three cats were out looking for trouble one dark and starry night.
They went into an alley and came across Miro's cat, which was engrossed in trying to
catch a mouse.  A lot of noise was made, but Miro's cat was very ferocious and
eventually the other three decided to go look for trouble elsewhere.

(This story is printed in the lower left corner, just below the image. It is laminated separately with the canvas transfers.)

(printed from original watercolor on paper;
original in private collection)

(This painting is printed in muted shades of gray/blue,
which is in keeping with the muted, grayed monochromatic
color scheme Picasso used for his cubist paintings.  See below.)

"I found your site through "Cat Web Site Directory" then selected "Cat Gallery."  I love your work!  I have 5  cats and they are my angels.  I also have art from China.  The print of Picasso's and Miro's cats fits right in.  Thank you for being a good artist.  The world needs more beauty!  Jeanette Vellinga"

"Hi.  I found your website because I was looking for a print Miro did of a cat.  Will be looking forward to updates and will pass your site on."  Susan Harrison (customer)

The cat art parody cat prints for Picasso's Cats and Miro's Cat started out as a transparent watercolor.  A strip of tape was laid down on the watercolor paper all around the edge of the image to be painted and across the middle of the paper.  The picture was painted up to the tape, which then provided a crisp edge for the border and for the two halves of the painting.

The upper portion portrays cats in three different styles of Picasso.  Look closely and you will see the gradual transition into three separate cats, including the small cubist one with a raised paw in the lower left corner.

The bottom of the picture reveals Miro's ferocious cat with sharp teeth and a French name tag (Chat).  Also look for the mouse being held down by one of the cat's claws (lower right).  The picture is sprinkled with the symbols Miro developed for his painting style.

Fortunately, this dramatic confrontation was peacefully resolved.

Miro liked to give his art long and unusual names.  The long title of this picture refers to the stary night, so look for the stars in both sections and the moon that ties the two paintings together.

Here you actually get three pictures for the price of one!  A Picasso, a Miro, and a Riser-Roberts.  Such a deal.  Do you like imaginative art?  Do you like art that tells a story?  Do you like the classic styles of Miro and Picasso?  Now you can have all this in one painting.  Would you prefer to hang it as a framed canvas or under glass?  Choose below.

Information on the cat art parody print process and the canvas transfers can be found under Cat prints/Canvas transfers.

Picasso

The style of the Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso,
evolved many times, he utilized virtually every
artistic technique available.  His aim was often to
disassemble and rearrange images.  His experi-
mentation with different painting approaches led
to the development of Cubism.  In Picasso's Cats
Meet Miro's Cat on a Dark and  Starry Night, there
are three Picasso cats representing three different
variations of the artist's style.  This includes Cubism
and one cat being viewed from both the front and
the side simultaneously--a favorite device of
Picasso's.

Miro

The spanish painter, Joan Miro, was inspired by
Fauvism, Cubism, folk art, and the writings of the
avant-garde poets. This influence was transformed
into a unique Surrealistic style, incorporating
mythology, dreams, and humor.  He filled his
paintings with amoebic and geometric shapes
and playful animal forms.
