See my original painting that interprets how Manet
might have painted his own cat!
If Manet had had a cat, how do you think he would have
painted it? I borrowed from Manet's techniques and created an original
scene featuring cats. Using Manet's famous style, I painted my
interpretation of how he would have portrayed his own cats
:-)
Cat art parody cat prints of Manet's scandalous painting, Olympia, from the Famous Artists' Cats Collection. This cat print portrays the enticing odalisque and her servant in the form of Siamese cats.

Edouard Manet was inspired to produce his infamous painting,
Olympia,
when he saw his lynx point siamese (complete with necklace)
sprawled seductively on the sofa and his black-faced
sealpoint siamese
sitting patiently beside her.
(This story is printed in the lower left corner, just below the image. It is laminated separately with the canvas transfers.)

transfer print of "Manet's Cat" and I love it!! Thanks so
much." "Just got the print back from
the framer today and it looks great! I've got it hanging
in the living room for now. I've turned a few more cat people on to
your site. Thanks again." Elizabeth
Bosnak "Eve, Manet's cat
print has arrived. I LOVE it. I'm trying to decide where to
hang it right now. I had a friend drop by yesterday and showed it to
her and she thought it was beautiful!" Thanks so much! Marcie
"While searching for a last minute
special Christmas gift for my daughter, Suzanne (who shares the family
affinity for cats), I remembered the delightful "Famous Artists' Cats"
paintings by Eve Riser-Roberts, from The Cat Gallery, which I had recently
added to my Collectibles Subject resources. I selected two prints, Manet's
Cats and Matisse's Cat . These are true prints, not posters; they are on
a very heavy, fine quality paper, and the colors are crisp and true. The
price was very reasonable. To say that my daughter was thrilled with them
is an understatement, and I will definitely return to this site for future
orders." "I was
very impressed with the reproduction quality. The prints arrived on
Tuesday, but I didn't manage to see them in daylight until yesterday. I
can only compliment your printers. The colours are wonderful and the
pictures every bit as good as I could hope for. I gave your email
and web address to the frame shop, because the guy there was very
impressed and we spent about an hour discussing the best mounts and
frames." Barry G. Freeman, Professional Photographer,
bazz@foxx.demon.co.uk I actually have this print on my computer as
the screen saver and I love it.....the cats are doubles of my siamese Bob
and Tamari and it just makes me smile! Thanks.
Deb This picture was originally painted
in transparent watercolors, which gives it a fresh, vibrant
glow. The stained glass floral design of the Tiffany lamp
casts its rainbow of colors into the background and onto the fur of the
two cats. The many colors blend in the diffuse stripes of the
lynxpoint siamese, while they are softly reflected in the white fur of the
sealpoint siamese. The strong, clear gaze of the lynxpoint is so
realistic, the light blue eyes appear to be drawing you into the
picture. An antique pillow with twisted cord
and tassel add a decorative detail to set off the two siamese. If
you love watercolors, cats, Tiffany lamps, and a gorgeous painting,
this piece will bring you many years and many treasured moments of having
them as your companions. You can bring the endearing charm of this
painting into your life now.

"Dear Eve,
I received my 2 cat prints this morning and I am just delighted. The
quality is wonderful and the service was fast, even in these times of mail
holdups. I was a little worried about ordering from Canada to the
USA but everything worked out smoothly. I can't wait to get my 2 new
artworks framed. I have Matisse's goldfish print and this cat print will
tie in so nicely. Manet's cat is also absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much! I have seen other cats posters but I
really loved yours. The price was reasonable and the site was so
attractive. I sent your link to a few friends and they loved it
too." Sincerely, Patricia Nairne
"Hi Eve--I was surfing around
cat-related sites on the Internet and happened upon your site. I
enjoyed your site and thought I would keep one of these posters (Manet's
Cats and Matisse's Cat) and give the other as a gift to my sister."
Good luck, Maureen Nielsen

The cat
art parody cat print of Manet's Cats is based on the famous painting,
Olympia, by Manet (see below). The models for this painting
were a sealpoint siamese and a lynxpoint siamese, who assumed the roles of
the characters in the original scene so beautifully .

The cat prints of the Edouard Manet Olympia art parody are accompanied by the paragraph describing the story behind them. The story is printed in small type just below the lower left corner in the white border on the archival paper. With the canvas transfers, the paragraph is attached to the back of the stretched canvas, which is ready for framing. For more information about the cat art parody series and the cat prints or canvas transfers, please go to the Cat prints/Canvas transfers page.

Manet Edouard Manet's painting, Olympia, was a scandalous picture par excellence. It was a deliberate provocation. It followed precise standardized painting rules of the times, even the traditional contrast between the "white" beauty and the "black" one. However, this was the first time a prostitute had been depicted so brazenly. Manet was making a statement about the supreme dignity of art whatever its subject. Although not visible here, the black cat standing at the end of the bed in Manet's Olympia is a symbol to denote corruption and moral decay of society. |
