Cat art parody cat prints of
Georgia O'Keeffe's Cat

See my original painting that interprets how Georgia O'Keeffe might have painted her own cat!

If O'Keeffe had had a cat, how do you think she would have painted it?  I borrowed from her techniques and created an original scene featuring a cat.  Using O'Keeffe's famous style, I painted my interpretation of how she would have portrayed her own cat :-)

Cat art parody of how Georgia O'Keeffe immortalized her cat's remains in these outrageous cat prints, which are typical of her famous skull paintings.   This cat art print is from the Famous Artists' Cats series and is available as a cat print and a canvas transfer.

Georgia O'Keeffe's cat skull

The skull of Georgia O'Keeffe's cat had been hanging in her studio for
some time, when it occurred to her that she had painted enough cow skulls and bones.
She decided to immortalize her cat in a painting with a rose on its tiny skull--
the mixture of life and death she frequently portrayed of the desert.

(This story is printed in the lower left corner, just below the image. It is laminated separately for the canvas transfers.)

"I was very impressed with the reproduction quality.  The prints arrived on Tuesday, but I didn't manage to see them in daylight until yesterday. I can only compliment your printers.  The colours are wonderful and the pictures every bit as good as I could hope for.  I gave your email and web address to the frame shop, because the guy there was very impressed and we spent about an hour discussing the best mounts and frames."  Barry G. Freeman, Professional Photographer, bazz@foxx.demon.co.uk

Lori Lee is another cat artist, and she and I decided to exchange prints.  I let her choose whichever print she wanted for her cat painting wall.

"Sorry to take so long getting back to you....it was such a hard decision!  I've made my decision (with the help of my husband's opinion).  I would like "Georgia O'Keeffe's Cat." My husband really likes it and so do I.  It will certainly look different than the rest of the cat prints it will be hanging with.  It's nice to have a variety."  Lori Lee at

"Eve, I got the print and I love it!  Lori Lee"

"Wonderful site... beautiful art, beautiful cats. Consider yourself bookmarked."  CatAnna at
The Meditative Cat

The cat art parody print for Georgia O'Keeffe's Cat was originally painted in transparent watercolor.  I spent a great deal of time in three libraries tracking down an image of a cat skull.

A sunbleached skull with a flower is typical of this series of O'Keeffe paintings.  The composition of this picture provides a dark stripe as a background to set off one of the delicate little white bones in the kitty cat's face.  The holes for the cat's tiny nose let the sunlight through to mirror their image in the shadow.

There is a stark beauty in the surrealistic effect of this subject matter, and many artists have followed in O'Keeffe's footsteps with their own interpretations.

I interpret this picture as a tribute to O'Keeffe's work and to the wonderful creature this once was.  The diversity of life always amazes me, and this is one of the elements that makes up what we love and call a cat.  This skull is not a symbol of death, but a reminder of the living being that once spent some time on earth with us.

Do you enjoy avant garde art and the symbolism of O'Keeffe's art?  Do you prefer the unusual and a modernist decor?  O'Keeffe's skull paintings and prints are highly sought after.  You'll never find another version quite like this one.  Make your choice below.

Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe painted a variety of subjects, including flowers, buildings, figures, and abstracts, but her greatest source of inspiration was the American Southwest.  She had a spiritual communion with the sky, plains, Badlands, canyons, rocks, and bleached bones of the desert.  She saw an inherent beauty in objects, even in the dried skulls she picked up on her long walks through the New Mexico desert she loved so deeply.
